🌌 “The Manifest and Unmanifest in Creation – Bhagavad Gita Chapter 8, Verse 18 Explained”

Bhagavad Gita Chapter 8, Verse 18 (संस्कृत श्लोक)

IAST Transliteration:
avyaktād vyaktayaḥ sarvāḥ prabhavanty ahar āgame
rātry āgame pralīyante tatraiva avyakta sañjñake

Hindi Translation (हिंदी अनुवाद)

English Translation

From the unmanifest (Avyakta) all manifested beings arise at the beginning of Brahma’s day; at the beginning of night, they dissolve back into the unmanifest state.

(Detailed Explanation in Hindi)

🌼 English Explanation (In-depth)

Krishna explains the cyclical process of creation and dissolution:

  • “Avyaktād vyaktayaḥ sarvāḥ” — All manifested beings arise from the unmanifest, the imperceptible and eternal source.

  • “Prabhavanty ahar āgame” — At the beginning of Brahma’s day, creation emerges.

  • “Rātry āgame pralīyante” — At the beginning of night, everything dissolves back.

  • “Tatraiva avyakta sañjñake” — All returns to the unmanifest state, the subtle and eternal reality.

The verse illustrates the transient nature of the manifested world and the eternal, unchanging reality of the unmanifest, highlighting the importance of understanding the divine cyclical order of creation and dissolution.

🌺 Life Lessons / Moral Teachings

In English:

  1. Creation arises from the unmanifest and dissolves back into it.

  2. The material world is transient; understanding the eternal truth is essential.

  3. Stability lies in God and the soul, not in manifested forms.

  4. Knowledge of nature’s laws and cosmic cycles is part of spiritual wisdom.

  5. True devotion and meditation lead to merging with the unmanifest, the path to liberation.

🔱 Conclusion

Bhagavad Gita 8.18 reveals the cyclical nature of creation and dissolution, showing that all manifested beings originate from the unmanifest and return to it.
It emphasizes the impermanence of worldly forms and the eternal, unchanging nature of the Divine, guiding seekers to focus on spiritual realization and devotion rather than temporary worldly attachments.
