महात्मानस्तु मां पार्थ दैवीं प्रकृतिमाश्रिताः।
भजन्त्यनन्यमनसो ज्ञात्वा भूतादिमव्ययम्॥

परन्तु, हे पार्थ! जो महात्मा हैं, वे दैवी प्रकृति को आश्रय करके मुझे अनन्य भाव से भजते हैं, क्योंकि वे मुझे समस्त भूतों का आद्य और अविनाशी परमेश्वर जानते हैं।
English Translation
But, O Partha (Arjuna), the great souls, taking refuge in the divine nature, worship Me with single-minded devotion, knowing Me as the imperishable origin of all beings.

इस श्लोक में भगवान श्रीकृष्ण “महात्मा” अर्थात् सच्चे ज्ञानी और भक्त पुरुषों का वर्णन कर रहे हैं।
सामान्य लोग माया और अहंकार के वश में होकर परमात्मा को नहीं पहचान पाते, परंतु महात्मा वे होते हैं जो दैवी प्रकृति का आश्रय लेते हैं — अर्थात् सत्वगुणप्रधान, निर्मल, करुणामय और ईश्वरीय शक्ति से युक्त।
ऐसे महात्मा यह समझ लेते हैं कि भगवान ही समस्त सृष्टि के आदि कारण हैं, वे न तो उत्पन्न होते हैं और न ही नष्ट होते हैं। यह ज्ञान उन्हें अनन्य भक्ति की ओर ले जाता है।
