🌟 Bhagavad Gita Chapter 7, Verse 20 (Jnana Vijnana Yoga) – “Why People Worship Other Gods: The Secret of Desires Revealed!” 🌟

🔹 Sanskrit Shloka (भगवद् गीता 7.20)

कामैस्तैस्तैर्हृतज्ञानाः प्रपद्यन्तेऽन्यदेवताः।
तं तं नियममास्थाय प्रकृत्या नियताः स्वया॥

🔹 IAST Transliteration

kāmais tais tair hṛta-jñānāḥ prapadyante ’nya-devatāḥ।
taṁ taṁ niyamam āsthāya prakṛtyā niyatāḥ svayā॥

🔹 Hindi Translation (हिंदी अनुवाद)

जिनका ज्ञान कामनाओं के कारण हर लिया गया है, वे अपनी-अपनी प्रकृति के अनुसार अन्य देवताओं की शरण लेते हैं और अपने स्वभाव के अनुसार उन-उन नियमों का पालन करते हैं।

🔹 English Translation

Those whose wisdom has been stolen by various desires surrender to other gods, following specific rules and rituals according to their own nature.

🌼 Detailed English Explanation

In this verse, Lord Krishna reveals why people worship different deities instead of the Supreme. He explains that those whose intelligence has been overpowered by desires lose sight of the Ultimate Truth.

The phrase “kāmais tais tair hṛta-jñānāḥ” means “whose knowledge is stolen by desires.” When a person is driven by worldly cravings — for wealth, success, pleasure, or power — their vision becomes clouded. They turn toward other gods to fulfill these temporary wishes.

Krishna points out that such worship is not wrong but limited in its purpose. It arises from personal needs rather than a desire for self-realization or liberation.

“Prakṛtyā niyatāḥ svayā” — every individual is bound by their own nature. According to their temperament, upbringing, and karmic tendencies, they are naturally inclined toward certain forms of worship.

Thus, people worship various deities, each according to their desires and conditioning. However, the Lord gently reminds Arjuna that all such devotion ultimately reaches Him, but only those who transcend desires attain His true, eternal form.

💫 Life Lessons / Moral Teachings (जीवन से सीखें)

In English:

  1. As long as the mind is filled with desires, true wisdom cannot blossom.

  2. Worship of different deities is valid but usually motivated by material cravings.

  3. Each person is guided by their inherent nature and past impressions.

  4. True devotion arises when one worships without expecting any rewards.

  5. Only a calm, desire-free mind can grasp the true essence of God.

🪔 Conclusion (निष्कर्ष)

भगवान श्रीकृष्ण इस श्लोक में मानव मन की जटिलता को उजागर करते हैं। वे बताते हैं कि जब तक इच्छाएं हमारे ज्ञान पर हावी रहती हैं, हम सच्चे ईश्वर को नहीं पहचान सकते।

True devotion begins when we go beyond desires and see all deities as different manifestations of the same Supreme Lord. The journey from desire-based worship to pure devotion is the real transformation of the soul.
