IAST Transliteration

sarvatra-anabhi-snehastat tat paraṁ tapyate,
yogī yuñjīta satataṁ ātmānaṁ rahasi sthitaḥ ॥ 6.44 ॥

English Translation

A yogi, free from attachment everywhere, engages in supreme discipline by continuously practicing self-mastery in secret, dedicating himself to inner spiritual effort.

✨ Detailed English Explanation

In this verse, Krishna emphasizes the continuous practice of a detached yogi:

  • Detached everywhere: The yogi is free from attachment to objects, outcomes, or beings.

  • Supreme discipline: His practice is the highest form of austerity (tapasya), focusing on inner mastery.

  • Secret practice: Yoga is performed privately, not for recognition, but for self-realization.

  • Continuous engagement: The yogi consistently disciplines the mind and senses, maintaining inner meditation and self-control.

This highlights that true yoga is a constant, detached, and inward-focused practice, not limited to outward rituals.

🌿 Life Lessons /

In English:

  • A true yogi remains detached in all circumstances.

  • Inner practice constitutes the highest form of austerity.

  • Yoga should be practiced privately for the Self, not for show.

  • Continuous self-discipline and meditation lead to realization of the Self.

Conclusion

This verse reinforces that continuous, detached, and secret spiritual practice is the hallmark of a true yogi, leading to inner mastery and self-realization.
